The Interview

I have interviewed an auditor who I personally know and have communicated to before. It was a qualitative semi-structured interview to improve the quality of the research paper and it is flexible (Kallio, Pietilä, Johnson and Kangasniemi, 2016). It lets me to be able to engage with my interviewee more and let me ask follow-up questions. He was the perfect interviewee as he has plenty of experiences related to the topic of the ‘Audit Expectation Gap’. I have only done a voice recording as they wish to keep their name and face anonymous. Of course, they are aware of being recorded and I have also made them aware of it before starting the interview.

Throughout the interview, I can feel myself clamped up and nervous, but I kept my composure. He had many details that I was unaware of and was pleasantly surprised in hearing. Although there are parts where I couldn’t understand immediately, and I was only able to know from repeating the recording multiple times. Either way, I was able to further understand the topic and how it truly affects everyone in the industry. It feels as if my communication and analyzation skills have improved. The interview went swimmingly well despite my nervousness since I was properly prepared for that moment.

If I would do it again, I would prefer to have gotten a second opinion and gain another interviewee if possible. Although the interview was long enough, I feel like some of the answers were a bit repetitive. I would also try to listen more carefully
